1st Grade News
February 9-13, 2004
Here’s what we will be doing in the classroom this week:
In Bible we will be studying the fruit of the Spirit and
focusing on love and thankfulness. Galatians 5:22
In Math we are working on telling time to the half hour,
reading a thermometer to 2 degrees (counting by 2’s) and
counting by 25’s to 200. We will count quarters to $2.00 and
begin the 9 family addition this week.
In Spelling this week we will have a test of 15 sight
words previously studied in class. The list was sent home
yesterday.
In Language Shurley English is progressing well. We are
able to recite jingles for nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and
sentences. We can classify sentences, labeling each part of speech
listed above. It is so much FUN!
In Science we are studying animals. This week we will
read a Science book about an animal from one of these groups:
reptile, amphibian, mammal, bird, fish or insect. We will make
flap books gathering info from our reading. Then we will use that
info to write a paragraph about our animal. Next week we will make
our diorama showing our animal in it’s habitat.
Don’t forget:
Wednesday (tomorrow) is the 100th day of school.
Projects are due that morning. We will have a show n tell
throughout the day giving each student and opportunity to share
what they created and how they made it.
Friday is our Valentine’s Day party. We will make
decorated bags this week focusing on God’s love and ways to show
God’s love. We will use these as mailbags for your child’s
valentines. Please send a valentine to each child in the class if
you wish to participate. If you need a list, please contact me.
One was sent home last week.
Special thanks to:

all enjoyed this outside activity to conclude our Community
Helpers Unit.

Thank you all and may the Lord bless you richly in return for
your sacrifice and labor of love!
