Biblical Reasons

Some time ago while reading Dr. Paul Kienel's book What Every Parent Should Know About Christian Education, I came to a chapter written by Dr. Wayne Gruden entitled "Biblical Reasons for Sending Children to a Christian School." Dr. Gruden gave six Biblical principles which were foundational to his decision to provide Christian education for his own children. Allow me to share them with you.

  1. All of a child's education should be Bible-centered and God-centered. "Parents do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Eph. 6:4)
  2. Education should be positive and truthful. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." (Pr. 22:6)
  3. Peer influences should be positive and Christ-like. Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." (1 Cor. 15:33) Children in a Christian school may not always behave in a Christ-like manner, but we have Biblical principles and concerned Christian teachers to prune and instruct in ways of righteousness.
To be continued...

Westlake Christian Academy's Mission Statement:
To provide for Christian families a Christ-centered education that                                                   challenges students to honor Jesus Christ in thought, word and deed.

Reminders from
the Office

School Closing            Information

Absences/Late Arrivals
If a student needs to leave school early for an appointment or for any other reason, please send note, and have them bring the note to the office as soon as they get here in the morning.  We will give them a pass for their teacher and they will be waiting for you in the office at the time you specify in the note.
Elementary Parents, if your child will be arriving after 8:25 am, please come to the office to sign your student in, and then they will receive a pass to class.
A Cold Weather Reminder…
We will continue to go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 10 degrees with or without the wind-chill. It is very important that every child have the appropriate cold weather clothing. Please be sure to send a winter coat, hat, gloves, snow pants, boots and any other warm clothing your child may need to class each day.  Students who forgot their warm clothing will continue to go outside, but will not be allowed to play in the snow. If your child is too sick to be outside at recess, he/she should be kept home.
Season for Illness…
Please remember that your child may not be brought to school if the following symptoms are present:

  • A temperature of 98.8 degrees F or more (your child must be temperature free for 24 hours before returning to school)
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • Discharge from eyes, ears, or unusual nasal discharge
  • A rash
  • Severe coughing

Winter Drop-Off

Old Man Winter
is headed our way!

It won't be long before we're building Snowmen and enjoying a Winter Wonderland.   Along with the fun comes lots of snow and ice.  To help alleviate any problems due to slushy and/or slippery steps; beginning Monday, December 6th, drop-off for PreK-Elementary students who arrive between 8:05 & 8:15 will be at the main doors. The children will still be going to the cafeteria until they are dismissed at 8:15 to go to class. This system will continue until the spring thaw. We will notify parents in the spring when we will change back.

If the winter weather has you questioning if school will be closed, you may use any of the following resources to find out:
