The Board of Trustees of Westlake Christian Academy is delighted to announce Dr. Michael D. Healan, Sr. as the new Administrative Head of the Academy. He will officially begin his duties on September 1, 2011.

Dr. Healan has served the Lord for over thirty years as an educator, administrator and an educational consultant. His training includes a Bachelors degree in Sacred Music (Bob Jones University), a Masters degree in Music Education (University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music) and a Doctor of Education degree (Bob Jones University).

Dr. Healan was the founding Administrator of Hartford Christian Academy (Hartford, CT) where he brought the school through the accreditation process, focusing heavily on curriculum development. He has served as the president and vice president of the New England Association of Christian Schools, on the Board of Directors and Accreditation Commission of the American Association of Christian Schools, and as the president and vice-president of the Connecticut Association of Christian Schools. Earlier in his career he produced award-winning vocal choirs, ensembles and hand-bell choirs (one of his hand-bell choirs played at one of the inaugural balls for George H.W. Bush).

When asked about this new chapter in his life, Dr. Healan commented: "I have spent considerable time poring over the information on the school's website and thoroughly enjoyed the time interviewing with the Board and representatives of the faculty and staff. The more I see and hear, the more impressed I am with the substantial quality already evident in the ministry at Westlake Christian Academy. With that, I am buoyed in my confidence that Westlake has a great future. My wife and I are excited about what God is doing in our lives at this time. It's like seeing puzzle pieces that we've picked up so many times and put back down because we could not see where they fit, and now suddenly all is making sense. How humbled we are to see how well our good Lord is working things for His glory and our good. We are absolutely delighted to be part of the WCA family. That delight is largely owing to the anticipation of the rich blessings I am confident God has for all of us as we team up together in this ministry. From my perspective, everything is in place for dynamic growth for the Academy in every way: academically, spiritually, and numerically."

As Westlake prepares to enter its 40th year of ministry we are excited about what God has been doing through the ministry of Westlake and what He will do in the years ahead. God graciously provides leaders for His people – leaders with different gifts and talents for different times and needs of the ministry. We firmly believe that Dr. Healan’s qualifications and his desire to serve our Heavenly Father will be a perfect fit as we work together to provide Christian education for Christian families."

Dr. Healan and his wife, Linda married in 1970. They have three grown children and seven grandchildren. Linda is an experienced church pianist and has a desire to be of help to other women. Linda has a degree in education and has taught in several schools for 25 years. The Healans enjoy hiking, biking, traveling and reading, and Dr. Healan is an avid fisherman.
