Westlake Christian Academy offers a comprehensive four-year high school with an enrollment of 58 in 2015-16. The school opened in the fall of 1972. Westlake is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and AdvancED.
Westlake Christian Academy’s high school program is primarily college preparatory. The academic emphasis is to provide educational experiences with the rigor, breadth, and depth necessary for graduates to succeed in whatever post-secondary pursuits they desire. Consistent with our mission of discipleship, it is also our desire that graduates will have embraced a Christian worldview through our academic program. While preparing our students for any post-secondary experience they may choose, we intentionally encourage our graduates to consider higher education options which will continue to build and solidify their understanding of a Christian worldview.
The academic program is organized on a schedule of eight 45-minute classes. Credit is earned by semester; four credits per semester is the maximum course load (eight per year). With a school year of 179 days, Westlake’s credits meet or exceed the definition of Carnegie credits.
These AP® courses are offered: Biology, Calculus AB, and English Literature and Composition, and Statistics. Students must qualify for AP courses. Honors classes are offered in Chemistry and Physics. Westlake offers one dual credit course: Introduction to Life Calling, taught by our faculty.
We have arranged with the Lake County Tech Campus for our juniors and seniors to enroll to pursue options in the trades and technical/medical fields, some of which earn college credits at the College of Lake County.
Grading and Ranking
64 or below
0.0 No Credit
Because of relatively small graduating class size, Westlake does not rank students in their classes.
GPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects using this grading scale, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 26 credits is required for graduation. In addition, each student must complete 100 hours of community service. AP and Honors classes are weighted by one point and a half-point respectively. Grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and May.
