Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are required to wear uniforms to school. Preschool and Pre-K students do not wear uniforms (they should wear play clothes every day).
Westlake updated our uniform guidelines in July 2021. The overall guidelines are the same, but we hope that the updates will make it easier for your family to shop and easier for students to comply. Please make every effort to purchase items that fall within the guidelines, so that our teachers and staff can focus on preparing our students to love God and love others.
An FAQ has been provided at the bottom of the page, but please feel free to contact the office if you have any questions about uniform guidelines.
Uniform items may be purchased from any retailer that sells items in the styles listed above. Some popular retailers are Target, Walmart, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Children’s Place, French Toast or Amazon.
A logo is not required on polos, but if you wish to purchase uniforms with a WCA logo, please visit our Land’s End school store. Our preferred school code is 900088386. If you create a Lands End account with WCA as your preferred school and add each student, you will be shown a page with pre-approved items that meet the school uniform code.
Uniform Resale: Westlake hosts a resale every summer. Gently used items are available at low prices. The resale usually runs during summer office hours (M–F, 9–3) for the last few weeks of July. Please check the school calendar for exact dates. Clean and gently used uniform items may be donated to the resale by dropping them off at the school office.
Spirit Store: Westlake hosts a spirit wear store twice a year. Uniform hoodies and sweatshirts can be purchased through the spirit store. The store will be open for a few weeks at the beginning of the school year, to allow your sweatshirts to arrive before cold weather.
Dollar Dress Down Day
Every Friday is a dress down day for students who bring $1 (to benefit Student Council or the Senior Mission Trip). Learn more about dress down guidelines.
Q: What’s different in the updated guidelines?
A: There are several minor changes that we hope will make it easier for you to shop for uniform approved clothing:
- Any royal blue polo (not just “cobalt” from Land’s End) is approved
- Athletic mesh/performance fabric is approved
- Pants and shorts may have back pockets (cargo style is still not allowed)
- Shorts must be mid-thigh OR a minimum 7-inch inseam
- Any navy sweatshirt with a WCA logo is approved (more choices will be available in the spirit store this fall)
- Any plain navy fleece with a collar is approved (WCA logo not needed)
- The maize/yellow color is being phased out
- Girls will not be allowed to wear patterned/colored leggings under their skirts/jumpers. Only solid white or navy leggings may be worn under skirts/jumpers.
- Students are no longer required to have at least one shirt with a logo
Q: My family has uniform items in colors other than the new guidelines. Can my students still wear these items?
A: While we are phasing out certain colors, anything that your family has previously purchased will continue to be accepted. Examples would be “maize” polos or “cobalt” fleece from Land’s End or items with the former logo.
Q: Do I have to buy uniforms from Land’s End?
A: No, uniform tops and bottoms are available at many different retailers.
Q: Do polos and fleeces need to have a WCA logo?
A: Solid color polos and fleeces without a logo are acceptable. Fleeces must have a collar (no fleece hoodies).
Q: Are solid navy sweatshirts acceptable?
A: No, sweatshirts must have a school logo (available from Land’s End year-round or twice a year from the WCA spirit store).
Q: What colors are considered “khaki”?
A: Anything tan, light tan or beige. Medium brown and green tones are not acceptable.
Q: Are pants/shorts with back pockets acceptable?
A: Back pockets are acceptable, as long as the pants/shorts are not cargo-style with pockets on the sides of the legs. Previously, only chino style was allowed.
Q: Is performance/mesh athletic style fabric permitted?
A: Yes, as long as the shirt is a solid color (no slub or heather) and doesn’t have a visible brand logo. Tech/flex pants and shorts are acceptable.
Q: Can my daughter wear colored or patterned leggings under her skirt/jumper?
A: No, leggings must be solid white or navy.
Q: Are there uniform shoes?
A: There are no specific shoes that are part of the uniform. Students should not wear flip-flops or athletic slides. For elementary students, shoes should be safe to wear on the playground. All students who take PE will need a separate pair of gym shoes for their locker.
Q: Do preschool and pre-k students have to wear uniforms?
A: Preschool and pre-k students should wear play clothes.
Q: Can polos or fleeces have a brand logo on them, such as Nike or Chaps?
A: No, uniform tops should not have a visible brand logo.
Q: Can my student wear a jacket or sweatshirt over a uniform shirt when it’s cold?
A: When students are inside the building, they may only wear uniform-approved sweaters, fleeces, or sweatshirts.
Q: Can my student wear leggings or sweatpants?
A: No, these styles of pants are not professional for school. Leggings may only be worn under skirts or jumpers.
Q: Are items sold as “uniform jeggings” acceptable?
A: Jeggings are “tight-fitting” and therefore do NOT meet the uniform requirements.
