Westlake Christian Academy offers a comprehensive four-year high school. Westlake is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and AdvancED.
Curriculum

Westlake Christian Academy’s high school program is primarily college preparatory. The academic emphasis is to provide educational experiences with the rigor, breadth, and depth necessary for graduates to succeed in whatever post-secondary pursuits they desire. Consistent with our mission of discipleship, it is also our desire that graduates will have embraced a Christian worldview through our academic program. While preparing our students for any post-secondary experience they may choose, we intentionally encourage our graduates to consider higher education options which will continue to build and solidify their understanding of a Christian worldview.
The academic program is organized on a schedule of eight 45-minute classes. Credit is earned by semester; four credits per semester is the maximum course load (eight per year). Westlake far exceeds the state required 880 hours of instructional time with well over 1000 hours annually.
Students have dual credit course options (courses that may be taken for high school + college credit OR just for high school credit). An ambitious student can be well into his or her freshman year of college before even stepping foot on a campus. Dual credit courses vary by semester. Courses that have been offered previously include:
- Calculus
- Statistics
- Western Civilizations
- American Politics & Government
- Economics
We have a partnership with the Lake County Tech Campus for interested juniors and seniors to enroll to pursue options in the trades and technical/medical fields, some of which earn college credits at the College of Lake County.
Seniors have the option of doing a guided internship with a local business in a field related to their career aspirations. For example, students have done internships in animal care, children’s and youth ministry, video production and editing, and law.

Rank
Because of relatively small graduating class size, Westlake does not rank students in their classes.
GPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects using this grading scale, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 26 credits is required for graduation. In addition, each student must complete 100 hours of community service. Grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and May.
