Pastors’ Chapel

September 26, 2019 by WCA Office Staff

We love our pastors and are so thankful for the impact you have on our lives! We hope you will visit our school and join us for a special chapel.

Join us on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 8:30 am – 9:45 am for fellowship with other area pastors and then an all-school chapel.

Our students love it when their pastor visits, and they love having the opportunity to thank you for shepherding them so faithfully.  As one of the only Christian schools in the area, Westlake shares your desire to disciple the next generation, and this is one way that we can partner with local churches.

Schedule

8:30 – Coffee & Fellowship with Other Area Pastors
8:40 – Message to Pastors (Laura DeReus and Peter Worrall)
9:00 – All-School Chapel

College Chaos Seminar

September 17, 2019 by Erica Bucey

Parents and high school students are encouraged to attend Westlake’s College Chaos Seminar on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. This night is THE BEST venue for you to get all of the counsel you need to prepare your student for college.

We are pleased to have Admissions staff from Judson University, as our presenters. First, this event is not an advertisement for Judson, although their staff will talk a little about the strengths of Judson. Second, they will share from their years of experience about important topics like:

  • What admissions departments look at
  • What you should be doing NOW to prepare for college
  • How to pay for college, and other critical issues

Even if you have come before, this should be a helpful refresher.  College may seem like a long way away, but there are steps families and students of each grade should be taking to optimize their opportunities.

Schedule:

6:30 – 7:00      Student and parent interactive college planning activity

7:00 – 7:45      College Chaos presentation

7:45 – 8:00      Q&A

Please register below so we can have enough packets of information available:

Back to School Night

July 3, 2019 by Erica Bucey

To simplify things for our families, this year we are combining “Drag & Drop” and Dedication/Curriculum Night into a one-night event. All families are strongly encouraged to attend. Here’s what you can expect at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019.

New Family Orientation

5:30–6:30pm, Cafeteria

New families are invited to join us for pizza and a couple of brief presentations that will help you acclimate to Westlake.

Drag & Drop (School Supply Drop-Off)

6:00–7:00pm, Classrooms

This year school supplies can be dropped off in the evening (instead of during the afternoon). If you ordered an online school supply kit, the PA will deliver it to your classroom in advance. This year, there will not be any extra supply boxes available to purchase from the Parents Association. However, you can still order online and pay an extra charge to have the kit shipped directly to your home. Or you can use the online list to purchase your own supplies.

Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night

6:00–7:00pm, Classrooms

Teachers will be available in all the classrooms to meet their new students. Previously, Curriculum Night has included presentations from teachers. This year, teachers will be giving out informational handouts about what to expect this school year and be available to answer questions or discuss concerns. Attending this event will make your child’s transition back to school smooth, and minimize those first-day jitters.

All-School Dedication

7:00–7:20pm, Gym

All families are invited to join us in the gym where we will briefly introduce Westlake’s faculty and staff, and then pray for the upcoming school year.

Freeze Pops Outside!

7:20pm, Playground

After the dedication, grab a freeze pop and check out our new playground!

Playground Project

May 2, 2019 by Erica Bucey

Thank you for helping us get a new playground!

Your generous gifts and volunteer hours made it possible for Westlake students to have a new playground for the 2019–20 school year.

The playground was dedicated on Friday, October 4th. The project includes a new play structure, a new swing set (with six swings instead of four!), new wood playground mulch, and a new fence.

The new playground is bright, fun and safe! Our students are enjoying it, and the visual impact from IL–120 is quite stunning. Thank you for making this possible!
