Students from Grades 4 – 8 will have their own classroom contests and the top five spellers from each grade will then compete on Wednesday, January 22nd for the all-school Spelling Bee.
Westlake’s third through eighth graders are currently in the middle of our own Scripps National Spelling Bee competition. They’re in the middle of round three. We’ll announce the winners at the end of the school day.
After the word “bingo” was spelled, Mrs. Coombe asked if we should all sing the song together, a hushed giggle settled over the crowd as observing students were instructed to remain silent.
Round 7 has begun and just three students remain. A fourth grader, sixth grader, and eighth grader.
Round 8 began with just two spellers: fourth grader Natahany Arapura and eighth grader William Hutchinson. The winning word was “steeplechasing”, correctly spelled by our winner William Hutchinson, who will progress to the Lake County sectional. Congratulations, Will! #SpellingBee2020
